Reflecting on the past half year, I haven't had the opportunity to explore as many new restaurants as I would've liked, given my fixation on work...but I have managed to sneak in a couple of my favourite eats of the year. With a new perspective and eagerness to explore again, I hope the rest of 2023 will be filled with more new foodie adventures!
But for now, sharing my favourite meals in Hong Kong from the past half year!
1. Chicano @ Sheung Wan
This is my second time visiting Chicano and it does not disappoint! Granted, I have not tried all the Mexican restaurants in Hong Kong, but I can safely say it is my favourite authentic Mexican restaurant in HK!
To celebrate my lovely friend visiting me in Hong Kong, we decided to splurge and get the Abuelita's 'Feed Us' menu, featuring 5 courses ($388pp). The staff were lovely enough to tailor the menu suit my friend's Pescatarian diet, and all I can say is that everything tasted PHENOMENAL. 100% recommend trying the Abuelita's Tasting Menu ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Must Order: Tostada de Ceviche de Pulpo, Tacos de Pescado
Perfect for: Date Nights, Reunions with Friends, Special Occasions, Appreciation for Authentic Mexican Food
2. Tonkatsu Hakura @ Central
To celebrate another friend visiting Hong Kong, decided to try the lunch set at Tonkatsu Hakura, and what a beautiful lunch it was. Nestled on the busy Wellington Street, Tonkatsu Hakura is a lovely escape to a traditional Japanese Tonkatsu den. With a beautiful interior and delicate craft of service and food presentation, it's a quaint restaurant to enjoy a luxurious, yet relaxed meal.
We both went for the Pork Fillet Katsu Set, including rice, miso soup, shredded cabbage ($220). Each set is accompanied with an assortment of salts and dips to enjoy a different flavour with each bite. Cannot wait to go back and try their Seafood Set 🤤
Must Order: Try their pork fillet! Premium meat - so tender and juicy 😍
Perfect for: Date Nights, Reunions with Friends, Special Occasions, Corporate Lunches
3. Xuan @ Wan Chai
Another old favourite of mine, XUAN! Undoubtedly my favourite restaurant in Hong Kong. Honestly, my photos don't do it justice (TBH, these photos are from my 2021 visit - since my 2023 photos truly don't represent how good the food looks IRL). Hidden in Wan Chai, Xuan offers a delicious array of Modern Vietnamese dishes and delicious tropical cocktails.
Visiting in 2023, we tried the Xuan Soft Shell Crab, Braised Beef Tongue Salad, Chargrilled M5 Wagyu Steak, Banh Xeo Sizzling Crepe, Crispy Suckling Pig. Hard to pick a favourite because it's ALL SO YUMMY!!! Recommend trying if you're ever in Wan Chai.
Must Order: Banh Xeo Sizzling Crepe, Xuan Soft Shell Crab, Crispy Suckling Pig
Perfect for: Date Nights, Reunions with Friends, Special Occasions, Chill Lunch, Corporate Lunches
4. Sunset Grill @ Tung Chung
The photo speaks for itself. This one requires a venturing out to the Sheraton in Tung Chung, but boy is it worth it. We decided to have a family dinner here before dropping my sister at the airport and...I was not expecting to eat the BEST steak I've had in Hong Kong. Not to mention the Seabass was IMPECCABLE. Again, the photo speaks for itself. I mean, LOOK HOW GOOD IT LOOKS! ...can't help drooling as I write this!
Must Order: Wagyu Ribeye, Whole Seabass with Ratatouille
Perfect for: Date Nights, Reunions with Friends, Special Occasions, Pre-Flight Drop-offs 😂
5. Chutney @ Central
To celebrate eight years together, we had a date night at Chutney and were mesmerised with the Truffle Naan, Aloo Tikka Chaat, and Lamb Seekh Kebab 🤤 Whilst my crown for favourite Indian restaurant in Hong Kong goes to Bombay Dreams, Chutney offers a unique take on Indian cuisine.
Must Order: ruffle Naan, Aloo Tikka Chaat, Lamb Seekh Kebab
Perfect for: Date Nights, Reunions with Friends, Special Occasions, Corporate Lunches

I'm happy I took the time to write this blog - made me realise that despite how fast the year has passed by, many good memories were made (and lots of delicious meals had!). To be honest, I've become quite the house hermit these past few months, so it's easy to feel like not much has been experienced/achieved. Most weekends, I've eaten CoCo Ichibanya, TamJai SamGor, or Dough Bros....so it's nice to acknowledge that I have done (and eaten) more than I thought I had!
What's your favourite meal(s) been in Hong Kong this year? Let me know in the comments so I can go try them out! 😊
Happy Feasting!
