Top 10 Hong Kong Dining Experiences in 2022

Updated: Jan 22, 2023

To honour 2022, I want to reflect on my favourite dining experiences in Hong Kong from the year. Below, in no particular order, are my favourite meals from 2022!

1. 181 @ Fortnum & mason, Tsim Sha Tsui

Without a doubt one of my favourite meals from 2022. Located above K11 Musea's Fortnum & Mason store, 181 is a quaint, old-English style restaurant with a gorgeous view of the HK skyline. The atmosphere is very relaxed and elegant, making it a wonderful place to celebrate special occasions in a low-key fashion.

We enjoyed their 3-course set dinner (available Mon-Thu) and it was absolutely divine. I recall loving everything - I think I made 4 separate posts to share all of the goodies we ate. Eager to head back to 181 to try out their afternoon tea!

Must Order: Beef Wellington

Perfect For: Special Occasions, Date Night

2. Picnic casual eatery, Tseung Kwan O

Picnic is for sure in my top 5 favourite restaurants in TKO! Located just off the TKO Waterfront, Picnic offers delicious, nutritious, filling meals. It was definitely love at first bite and I've returned (and ordered delivery) a lot from Picnic since! Our go-tos include their falafel wrap, chicken shish rice platter, and the falafel salad. So, so, so yummy.

🚨 Warning: their spicy sauce is actually spicy, so order with caution 🥵

Must Order: Falafel Wrap, Chicken Shish Rice Platter

Perfect For: Everyday Eating, Healthy Meals, Brunch

3. Kyoto joe, central

STUNNING. Stunning food, interior, and drinks. Hidden just above LKF in California Tower, Kyoto Joe has breathtaking views of HK Island. It's definitely a #treatyourself location - great for special occasions, work lunches, or payday treats 😉

Definitely want to return to try their weekend brunch!

Must Order: Kyoto Box, Sashimi & Negi Don, Kobe Beef Roll

Perfect For: Special Occasions, Date Night, Work/Client Meals

4. La Taverna, tsim sha tsui

Nestled on a hidden street in the middle of TST, La Taverna is a charming, rustic Italian restaurant with delicious, simple meals. I've visited the taverna twice and both times they offered a different 5-Course Set Menu 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 My all-time favourite dish has to be their Truffle Ravioli 😍 Hope they bring it back on the menu!

Must Order: Depends on their set menu!

Perfect For: Date Night, Special Occasions, Work/Client Meals

5. Bombay dreams

LOVE Bombay Dreams 😍 I've tried my fair share of Indian restaurants in Hong Kong, and so far Bombay Dreams takes the crown! 👑 So. Freaking. Good. I cannot stress enough how good everything tastes - you just have to try it for yourself! They've got a great lunch buffet if you want to try a bit of everything, or is a lovely place for a romantic dinner or catchup with friends/family.

Must Order: Baingan Bharta (Eggplant Curry), Murgh Hussani (Chicken) Biriyani

Perfect For: Date Night, Special Occasions, Work/Client Meals

6. Lounge & Bar @ Ritz Carlton, elements

Another meal with a view! I think this view takes the cake for sure. Located on the 102nd Floor in the Ritz Carlton, the Lounge & Bar makes you feel like you're on top of the world! (or HK!) A dear friend of mine invited me for a staycation at the Ritz Carlton, which was an incredible experience. We of course had to try out the food on offer at the hotel and it did not disappoint! Try ask for a window-facing table when you make a booking so you can soak up the view.

Must Order: Duck & Waffle

Perfect For: Date Night, Special Occasions, Work/Client Meals

7. Te Quiero Mucho, Central

I've stumbled upon quite a few delicious Mexican restaurants in Hong Kong, but Te Quiero Mucho takes the lead (though Chicano is close competition!). We were looking for a fun restaurant with lively music, spicy food, and good drinks and TQM definitely delivered! I'd recommend going with a group of 3+ so you can split the Taconmadre (12pc Taco Platter).

Must Order: Nachos, Pescado (Fish) Tacos

Perfect For: Date Night, Friend Reunions, Tacos & Drinks

8. CIAK - In the kitchen, central

My lovely boyfriend took me to CIAK for my birthday dinner and wow. I'm usually not the biggest pizza fan, but I am definitely a simp for CIAK's pizza. Everything we tried is packed with flavour, fresh ingredients, and you have to save room for dessert.

Must Order: Diavola Pizza, Seafood Ravioli, Lemon Tart

Perfect For: Date Night, Special Occasions, Work/Client Meals

9. Alto, Causeway Bay

Another dinner with a spectacular view! Alto is perfect for special occasions with great service, nice food, and impeccable views. To top it off, you can walk upstairs to their rooftop and take in the fresh air and view. Make sure to order to share, so you can try more dishes - and save room for dessert!

Must Order: Hokkaido Scallops, Salmon Tartare, Grilled Octopus

Perfect For: Date Night, Special Occasions, Work/Client Meals

10. Mak mak, central

Mak Mak has to be my most-visited restaurant in 2022. Located in Landmark and close to my office, it's been my go-to spot for lunchtime catch-ups with friends and family. Mak Mak is another #sharing style restaurant and there is so many delicious dishes to pick from. You MUST eat dessert here.

Must Order: Khao Soi, Coconut Ice Cream

Perfect For: Everyday Eating, Friend Reunions, Special Occasions, Work/Client Meals

🥺 Guilty Pleasure: TamJai SamGor

Hahaha, cannot highlight my favourite meals of 2022 without expressing love for my most frequently craved #fastfood meal. I've been craving spicy so much and TamJai always comes to save the day. My go-to order has to be (Chongqing) SamGor Hot & Sour Soup, Sweet Potato Noodles, Level 4 Spicy, with Beancurd Puffs, Fish Balls, and Beef Slices.

Well, that's a wrap on 2022!

While these are the 10 most memorable meals from 2022, this only scratches the surface of delicious meals I had. I also was fortunate enough to travel to Spain, UK, and Japan in 2022 and had some of the most heavenly meals there - will share in some upcoming blogs!

Let me know in the comments what your favourite meal from 2022 was!
